About the flag

It is a slightly atypical portuguese municipal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a purple and green background gyronny (city rank). Flag and arms adopted upon upgrade to city status in 1991, after trivial changes (background pattern, crown and scroll text), but apparently not yet officialized by law. (I suspect that this is due to the unheraldic background pattern: They got away with it back in 1935 but the Commission will not approve the modified flag with these colors.)
