Shield Argent two bars wavy Azure in base, the western fassade of the cathedral at dexter side and a knight's statue Sable at sinister side. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials "SÉ - PORTO".
Meaning:
The cathedral (Port.: ) is a canting element. The statue is that of Vimara Peres (820(?)-873), a Galician knight and vassal of the Asturian king Alfonso III. He resettled the region between Douro and Minho, founded Guimarâes (then Vimaranis) and was the very first Count of Portugal. The statue is located just opposite of the Cathedral. The base wavy is representing Douro River.

Coat of arms

Shield Vert with base wavy of Azure and Argent cornwd by a throughout wall Argent masoned sable having five blind archs, above an open book Argent bound Gules and Or, in chief a pair of keys in saltire, the bendy one Or and the sinister bendy one Argent. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials "MIRAGAIA - PORTO".
Meaning:
Green is the colour of hope for an auspicious future of the people and is also referring to the biggest parc areas in the city of Porto. The book is representing culture, especially the numerous schools, museums and monuments within the commune. The base wavy is representing Douro River. (The commune's name means "look at Gaia", the commune is thus located on the northern bank of the Douro opposite to (Vila Nova de) Gaia.) The wall is representing local fortifications. Finally the keys are an attribute of St. Peter, the local patron saint.

Shield Or with base wavy of Azure and Argent, issuant from base a throughout metal bridge Sable having one arch, in chief an open book Argent bound Gules, covered by three sacks Azure closed Gules and ordered 2:1. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials "S. NICOLAU - PORTO".
Meaning:
The bridge is representing Ponte de Dom Luís I, crossing the Douro River, represented by the base wavy. Book and sacks are attributes of St. Nicholas, the local patron saint and name giver of the commune. The golden background colour is symbolizing affluence and economic development in the commune.

Shield Azure, divided by a fessy rope Argent fixing a paly palm leaf Or at dexter and a flower, stemmed, leaved and blossomed Or with three blossoms seeded Gules, over all a belfry Or masoned Sable with port and windows Gules and bell Argent. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials "VITÓRIA - PORTO".
Meaning:
The belfry is representing the Torre dos Clérigos, the free-standing belfry of the Church of Clerics. It is the highest free-standing spire of Portugal.
