It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain white field.

Coat of arms

Shield Gules, a bendy pilgrim's baton Argent accompanied by a canteen Or, in sinister chief a phormium Argent leaved of the same and seeded Azure, in dexter base a grapevine Purpure leaved Argent. Mural crown with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials: "BRANDARA".
Meaning:
Baton and canteen are attributes of St. James of Compostela, the local patron saint. Phormium and grapevine are symbolizing the importance of agriculture and its main products linen and vine. The base wavy is alluding to River lima, the base of prosperity of the area. The red colour of the shield is symbolizing the struggle of the local people for the development of their soil.
