Coat of arms

Shield Azure, a church pennant Argent with a throughout Latin cross Gules and two ravens affronty Sable in the upper quarters, fixed on a cross Or and flanked by an inescutcheon Argent at dexter charged with the cross of the Order of Christ and an inescutcheon Gules charged with a maltese cross Argent, in base a Ionic capital Argent garnished Sable. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials: "FORNELOS - QUEIJADA".
Meaning:
The cross of the Order of Christ and the ravens are taken from the arms of former Fornelos Commune. The Maltese Cross and the pennant are taken from the arms of the former Queijada Commune.

This flag is one of the rare examples of flags of a new commune created in 2013.

Fornelos e Queijada Commune is one of the 39 communes of the Ponte de Lima municipality (q.v.); it has about 1800 inhabitants and covers 13.4 km².

The arms are Or two bunches of grapes Purpure per fess stemmed Vert and in chief a Christ Knights' cross patty Gules filled Argent between two ravens respectant Sable and on a base wavy Azure a fess wavy Argent. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "FORNELOS - PONTE DE LIMA"
Author of the arms and flag design is Carlos Alberto Mouteira Fernandes.

Presentation of Fornelos

Fornelos Commune was one of the communes of Ponte de Lima Municipality (q.v.); it had 1535 inhabitants in 2001 and covers 10.50 km². "Fornelos" is archaic Portuguese for "small ovens" or "small kilns" and these arms are thus not canting; in Portugal there are five communes thus named.

It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain yellow field.

Coat of arms

Shield Gules, a base wavy of Argent and Azure, a tree eradicated Or flanked by two Maltese crosses, in chief a Paschal Lamb. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials: "QUEIJADA".
Meaning:
The Paschal Lamb is an attribute of St. John the Baptist, probably being the local patron Saint, the crosses are alluding to the Order of St.John.

Queijada Commune was one of the pre-2013 communes of the Ponte de Lima municipality (q.v.); it had 274 inhabitants in 2011 and covered 2.90 km².
