It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain green field.

Coat of arms

Shield Or a fess Gules, in chief a mitre Purpure gemmed Or with scarves Gules, superimposing a cross-on- pole and a crozier crossed per saltire, both Gules, in base a potatoe shrub leaved Vert and eradicated Gules. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials: "ALMARGEM DO BISPO".
Meaning:
The commune's name means "the bishop's meadows", the elements in chief are alluding to a bishop. Thus the arms are partially canting.

Coat of arms

Shield Gules, a stonecutter Argent with his tool standing in front of a high block of stone, bordure Or fimbriated Gules. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) (and white scroll with inscription in black initials: "VILA DE PERO PINHEIRO".
Meaning:
The town is famous for its numerous stonecutters, carving out especially marble and granite.

The commune was established on 11 March 1988, seceding from Montelavar commune. It gained the rank of a town (vila) on 30 June 1989.

It is a fairly untypical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field divided per bend sinister into yellow over blue. The image is based on photo, showing the flag in front of the local fire brigade station.

Shield Gules, in base a triple mount issuant Vert, crowned by an embattled tower Argent (realized as grey), masoned Sable with port Sable and superimposed by five inescutcheons Argent (realized as white) ordered per cross, each one charged with five inescutcheons Sable in quincunx, the tower is flanked by a stonecutter's hammer Argent hilted Or at dexter and compasses Or at sinister. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials: "VILA DE MONTELAVAR".
