About the Flag

It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain white field.

Former Logo Flag

[Gâmbia - Pontes - Alto da Guerra commune logo flag] 2:3 image by António Martins-Tuválkin, 29 Mar 2017

Before the adoption of the current flag, which follows the Portuguese law for communal flags, this commune used a white flag with a logo on it. This logo is a square and has a white background itself, with a thick light blue stripe all around and shows a stylized landscape with a yellow sun, a light blue jagged line suggesting clouds (or the western horizon?), four trees (stone pines?) in green on a green winding line where two houses outlined in darker blue are also set, and in foreground two fishing boats outlined in darker blue on two wavy light blue lines, suggesting the river estuary. Bellow this, lettering reading "GÂMBIA PONTES" and "ALTO DA GUERRA" set in two lines with heavy condensed serifeless darker blue capitals, and along the left side of the whole in vertical lettering the words "Junta de Freguesia".
On the flag the logo shows large, taking up around 70% of its height. It appears to be present on both sides of the flag (edging on the reverse visible here) but it is not clear whether the text is readable, nor, if so, how exactly. The flag shown on these photos seems to be applied, not printed, and therefore only a few copies may exist, maybe even only one.

Presentation of Gâmbia - Pontes - Alto da Guerra

Gâmbia - Pontes - Alto da Guerra Commune is one of the five communes of Setúbal Municipality; it had 5885 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 32.9 km². It was created in 1985, detached from Setúbal's urban commune São Sebastião. On its territory exist a dozen villages of varying sizes, three of which were chosen to name the commune after (another example of pre-2013 hybrid commune names, without resorting to name it a "union of communes")
It should be noted that this commune's name is usually shortened to just Gâmbia - even the official website titles its pages "Gâmbia online" and the domain name includes only "gambia". This toponym is identical to the Portuguese name/spelling of The Gâmbia - but apparently this is not acknowledged as more of a mere curiosity, and it has no heraldic or vexillological role.
