Introduction of Torres Vedras e Matacâes united commune

It was named originally União das Freguesias de Torres Vedras (São Pedro e Santiago e Santa Maria do Castelo e São Miguel) e Matacães, published in Diário da República: I Série on 28 January 2013, usually known, sensibly, as Freguesia de Torres Vedras e Matacães, and later officially renamed to the more reasonable Freguesia de Santa Maria, São Pedro e Matacães, published in Diário da República: I Série on 8 August 2015.

Shield Vert; a pair of keys Or, crossed per saltire with their wards respectant, flanked by two grapevines Or, in base a scallop Argent. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "TORRES VEDRAS - SÃO PEDRO E SANTIAGO".
Meaning:
The ungainly named Freguesia de Torres Vedras (São Pedro e Santiago) was one of the two communes, which split the municipal seat in twain crosswise, each of them in turn resulting from a previous amalgamation into pairs, in 1859, deriving ultimately from four original Catholic parishes: St. Peter's (São Pedro), St. James (Santiago), St.Michael (São Miguel) and St. Mary of the Castle (Santa Maria do Castelo). The grapevines probably rea representing viticulture. The other charges are representing the name givers: the keys for St. Peter and the scallop for St. James the Elder. It was one of the 13 communes of Torres Vedras Municipality affected by the 2013 changes, when it was joined to the other urban commune and to the neighbouring rural commune of Matacães to form a new commune, encompassing the whole of Torres Vedras city and and a sizeable chunk of countryside all around, containing several villages incl. Matacães.
