Santa Valha Commune is one of the 25 communes of Valpaços Municipality; it had 415 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 26.9 km². The name of this commune resembles a (Catholic) female saint honorific, but there's no actual saint by that name. The local Catholic patron is Saint Eulalia (as usual, one's never sure which of the two: the one of Barcelona or the one of Merida) and the name might come from a corrupted form of that: Santa Olaia.
