Description of the Flag

According to http://pacificdigitallibrary.org, the flag of Angaur is horizontally divided dark green-green-blue-dark blue with an orange flower stretching over the two central stripes and slightly overlapping the upper stripe.

The four stripes stand for the four hamlets forming Angaur. Green represents the calm of the fertile land. Blue represents the powerful deep blue sea that surrounds the island.

The orange "kelau" flower represents the unique customs and traditions practiced by the people of Angaur. The "kelau" flower is used in the Ngasech Ceremony which is practised differently in Angaur than in the rest of Palau. This single flower symbolizes the oneness and the unity of all of Angaur's people into a cooperative whole ("kltalreng"). The red "ptuucherar" flower, used in the Ngasech ceremony by some of the clans in Angaur is reflected in the background. The "kelau" and the "ptuucherar" flowers both appear together as one, showing the cooperation and unity of all clans of Angaur. The eighteen black stamens of the flower are the eighteen clans of Angaur. They all originate from one center, and then radiate out to each individual clan identity.

*Kelau is Cordia sebestena L., Family Boraginaceae. Native from the Caribbean islands and South America, the plant is known in Florida as Geiger tree.
