Word "agender" means "genderless" (i.e. having no gender).

The flag representing this orientation was created by Tumblr user Salem X in 2014.[1,2,3] It has seven horizontal stripes of black, gray, white, green, white, gray and black. According to the author,[1,4] "the black and white stripes represent an absence of gender, the gray represents semi-genderlessness, and the central green stripe represents nonbinary genders," green having been chosen as a complementary of purple, thus standing outside of "the spectrum of male (blue) and female (pink) identities." The author also names the transgender flag as the inspiration for the design.
While the flag images have spread online very much, mostly as part of the collective presentations of sexual orientation flags,[2,3] the photos of the real-life use are still few. In June 2018, the flag was hoisted in Rothschild Boulevard, Tel Aviv, Israel, together with many other sexual orientation flags, possibly in honor of the Tel Aviv Pride, which traditionally takes place at that time every year.[5] In 2019, it was used in Sydney, Australia, at the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras on 30 March 2019, [6] and in Iowa City, Iowa, at the Iowa City Pride on 15 June 2019.[7]
