Introduction

The Union of Rightist Forces (Soyuz pravyh sil) was founded in 1999 as the electoral bloc of several liberal parties and movements. In 2000, the bloc members have merged into a unified political movement of the same name, which was officially declared a party next year and joined the International Democrat Union later.
Prominent party members included: Sergey Kiriyenko, Prime Minister of Russia March-August 1998; Yegor Gaidar, Minister of Finance 1991-1992 and acting Prime Minister June-December 1992; Boris Nemtsov, First Deputy Prime Minister April-August 1998 and party chairman 2001-2004 (later joined Garry Kasparov to found political movement "Solidarity"); Anatoly Chubais, First Deputy Prime Minister 1997-1998; and Irina Khakamada, Deputy Chairwoman of the State Duma 2000-2003 (later joined Mikhail Kasyanov to found People’s Democratic Union). After Nemtsov, the party was led by Nikita Belykh (2005-2008) and Leonid Gozman (2008).
In 2008, the party has merged with Civic Force and Democratic Party of Russia to form the Right Cause party, meant to become a stronger replacement of three ideologically close, but weakening parties. Although the party nominally disbanded itself, it was actually transformed into the same-named NGO, which shared its members with the new party, to which it transferred the associate member status in the International Democrat Union. After a series of conflicts within the Right Cause, which culminated at the controversial party congress in September same year, many of original members of the Union of Rightist Forces have left the party.
Since January 2012, the NGO operates as the separate political movement, with Gozman as the chairman again. Although it is not registered as the party yet (the transformation seems to be still under way), the International Democrat Union has suspended associate member status of the Right Cause and returned it to the Union of Rightist Forces in September 2011.

This flag is of Union of Right Forces whose leader was Boris Nemtsov between 1999 and 2004. The Union of Right Forces political party, or SPS (Russian: Сою́з Пра́вых Сил, СПС/Soyuz Pravykh Sil), is a Russian neoliberal political public organization and formerly party initially founded as an electoral bloc in 1999 and associated with free market reforms, privatization, and the legacy of the "young reformers" of the 1990s: Anatoly Chubais, Boris Nemtsov, and Yegor Gaidar. The party was officially self-dissolved in 2008.
Since 2011 the Union of Right Forces has been registered as a political public organization, not a political party. It is a member of the International Democrat Union.
