Veritas Tankers

image by Eugene Ipavec, 6 February 2011

Veritas Tankers is a small Swedish shipping company situated at Donsö near Gothenburg. Website (English).
"Rederi AB Veritas tankers is a family business owned by Anders [Johnsson], Ove [Johnsson] and Inga-Lena [Sörenssen]. (...) The company started 1983 at Donsö Island but with its origin in the bunkering trade."
The firm operates three chemical tankers, for details see ‘Vessels’ (upper menu): these ships fly the Swedish flag and sail currently under a time charter.
The house flag as it appears on above site: white field bearing blue initials ‘T’ above ‘V’, the latter much larger and enclosing the former (no serifs).
The flag is apparently flying on ‘Anista’ (next to the Finnish flag) as seen on this Shipspotting page: http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=938659
Photo detail. The house flag also appears on the ships’ funnels.

A table flag of Veritas Tankers shown on Josef Nüsse’s revamped site includes small initials "AB" representing the Swedish equivalent of "Ltd" (Aktiebolag), see "Schweden" first item of last but one row:

This variant might be the right one in real life - the photo I sent on 11 Jan 2011 was inconclusive and the flagoid shown on the company site. Hopefully a good photo will show up one day, at the moment we do not really know. In the meantime, this image taken from above site (LUOP).

This company has passenger lines from Stockholm out in the archipelago, e.g. to the town of Vaxholm, which used to be spelled "Waxholm". A short form of the company's name is Waxholmsbolaget.

White Star Line

According to Collectors Corner there was such a company based Stockholm but so far I have not managed to trace it. Possibly it was a trade name based on the flag from the cap badge of a blue swallowtail bearing a white star.

This company apparently began operations around 1900 being involved in tugs and barges. As well as the blue flag shown by Jarig the Nüsse site [5] shows a table flag also of blue but with the "W" gold and the flag having a narrow gold border [w98a above]. Two cap badges on the Collectors Corner site also vary. One shows black with a yellow "W" [w181 above] though as this seems to be more the sewing on of the basic design onto black cloth which also shows as a background, I find it suspect. However the 2nd appears likely showing a horizontal bicolor of black over yellow with the "W" counterchanged [w182 above]. The slight difference in title refers to their tug activities. There appears to have been a change of emblem going by the funnel designs occurring at least by 2004 with possibly the new logo meant to be a very stylized "W". The company itself is still operating but in 2005 it set up Marine Carrier A/B through which its shipping activities are run. It also uses the new logo on its funnels but nothing is known of any new flag.
