ship: Groveland, built 1901, torpedoed 1917. Flag yellow bordered red, red "F". The ship was originally built for the SS CO Fawcitt (GB); I guess it kept the houseflag when it came into Swedish hands.
Jarig Bakker, 16 August 2005

Lloyds 1912 [1] show the flag being used by Charles H. Ford of West Hartlepool which is where the Fawcitt S.S. Co. was based. They also show for same entry as the flag being used by J.P. Jönsson of Landscrona which seems to suggest a connection between Ford and Jönsson.

Grängesberg-Oxelösund Trafik A/B began operating steamship in 1899 as Rederi A/B Lulea-Ofoten which flew a white swallowtail with a smallish canton of the Swedish colours and on the middle of the field were the black letters "L-O". By the early 1970s the name was changed to Gränges A/B and they ceased as shipowners in 1978.

[Rederi A/B] Göta Kanal

Göta Kanal image contributed by Neale Rosanoski, 9 February 2007

Began in Göteborg in 1869 as Ångfartgs Aktiebolaget Göta Kanal changing name in the 1950s and lasting until the mid 1980s. An older design with a white flag bearing a gold shield charged with a blue wavy bend sinister, which presumably represents the canal, sourced from a Collectors Corner cap badge and Loughran 1979. Göteborg-Oslo Linjen

Based in Göteborg and located from at least around the early 1950s to 1960s under a couple of operators and with the Collectors Corner cap badge showing diagonal quarters of red and blue separated by a yellow saltire with the quarters bearing the white letters "Æ"[top], "G" [hoist], "O" [fly] and "L" [base]

ship M/T Margit Reuter, built 1945, upphuggen 2001; seven fly- diagonal stripes of blue and white.

Reut & Reuter, Onsala.
Ole Andersen, 2000-Sep-20

Hakon A Reuter. Rederi A/B Reuter was one of their subsidiaries. The actual design of their flag is uncertain as apart from this version which is nearly supported by the Collectors Corner cap badge which does not have any white at upper hoist or lower fly, US Navy 1961 [8] shows white with 3 narrow blue diagonal bands whilst Talbot Booth 1942 and 1944 show 4 white and 3 blue bands of equal width but reverse the direction to per bend i.e. from upper hoist to lower fly.

Reported later flag

Operated from Göteborg pre-World War 2 with a white pennant edged blue and bearing the blue letters "H.B." being shown by Talbot-Booth in 1937 and 1938 and confirmed by a Collectors Corner website cap badge. However Talbot-Booth 1942 and 1944 show a yellow field replacing the white indicating a later change.

Harry Persson

[Harry Persson] image contributed by Neale Rosanoski, 25 November 2006

From Landskrona, Persson is shown by US Navy 1961 [8] with a yellow flag with a broad blue horizontal band bearing a white "P". He was operating in the 1930s through until about 1960 with the vessel "Allan". Talbot-Booth [tbb] in his 1942 and 1944 Merchant Ship" books gives him as operating Rederi A/B Allan with a different funnel so presumably the same ship but under his own name post-World War 2.
