Presentation of LDS

The Liberal Democracy of Slovenia (Liberalna demokracija Slovenije, LDS) is a center-left party and the former longtime (1992-2000, 2000-2004) ruling party of Slovenia. Its support began to fall sharply in the latter year's election and has subsequently pretty much imploded, to the accompaniment of infighting and defections; in the 2008 parliamentary elections the LDS won only 5 of 88 seats, with 54,771 votes or 5.21% of the total, the least of any party that reached the Assembly. Since then, it has joined the current government, in coalition with the SD and its own splinter Zares, and has moved somewhat farther left.
The party was founded on 12 March 1994 by merger of the Liberal-Democratic Party, the Democratic Party, the Socialist Party and the Greens - Ecological Social Party.

As part of an attempt to reinvent itself after the disastrous 2008 election, the LDS adopted a new graphic identity; an astonishingly comprehensive "Complete Graphic Identity Handbook" defines the appearance of everything down to and including ballpoint pens and refrigerator magnets, but not flags (except table ones). However the party does use flags; they are essentially a vertical slice of the "wall background" graphic from page 14 of the manual, mostly blue with a wide climbing green arc and the LDS logotype near the top. This again more or less conserves the traditional LDS colors, which the manual now precisely specifies, too:
- Pantone Process Cyan / C 100 . M 0 . Y 0 . K 0 / 60% 30% 10%;
- Pantone 368c / C 40 . M 0 . Y 100 . K 0;
- Pantone 2758c / C 100 . M 90 . Y 10 . K 0.

This basic design is often customised by local party sections or intraparty committees with the addition of more text. The graphic identity manual prescribes a different table flag, but in practice the party uses table flags that are simply miniature versions of its full-size ones.

A darker blue, with a giant lime-green asterisk (larger than the flag itself) in the hoist and the party acronym name in white caps in the lower fly, below another - much smaller - lime-green asterisk was in use (photos) from before the 2004 election until 2008, the party's nadir, preserving the colors of the preceding flag.
There was no fullsize vertical version, but there were table flags; they retained the same elements, but rotated them 90 degrees.

A blue flag, with the heavily bolded white capital letters "LDS", the void in the "D" being green and angled as though the letter were italicised, with the name of the party in white caps below was in use during the LDS's mid- and late-90s golden age; examples are still occasional displayed for nostalgic effect, and the youth section of the party continues to use a flag derived from this design.

Young Liberal Democracy (Mlada liberalna demokracija) is the party's youth section. It continues to use a flag based on the LDS's 1990s design, ~3:8 and dark blue with the acronym "mLD," "LD" in the same heavily bolded white caps as on the former party flag and "m" lowercase, italicised and orange. The void in the "D" is orange too, and inclined as though that letter were italicised. Instead of the name of the party below there is the text "MLADA LIBERALNA DEMOKRACIJA" in white caps.
