According to the Thai Ministry of Interior in 2000, the flag of Chiang Mai
province is blue with a representation of the main elements of the provincial
seal in the middle of the flag on a pale green disk with a red outer and a
yellow inner border, and the name of the province in red on a yellow label on
the bottom of the disk.

The seal
of the province shows a white elephant in a glass pavilion to commemorate the
offering of a such elephant by King Rama II to the ruler of Chiang Mai. The
pavilion symbolizes that Buddhism prospered in Chiang Mai, especially when in
1477 the teachings of Buddha, the Tripitaka, were reviewed.

There was a kingdom of Lanna (Lan Na) 1259-1892 (royalty continued to 1939)
and it has been reported that it had a banner or at least that the ruler had
one.
There were also principalities that might have had flags at:
Khelang Nakorn (from 1892 Lam Pang province), royalty ended 1925;
Lamphun
1775-1892 (royalty ended 1943);
Nan to 1892 (royalty ended 1931)
Patani
(from 1902 Pattani).
It would be interesting to see if there was more
history about the flags of these regions.
