Image of the former flag attached from The Norwalk Hour of September 12, 1951, thanks to the work of an employee at the Norwalk History Room in locating it.

According to The Bridgeport Telegram of June 27, 1951, Norwalk adopted a city flag which was submitted by Mrs. Dorothy Chase, who was the chairman of a publicity committee for the 300th anniversary of the city. She declared that she created the flag because it was apparently needed for many activities planned for the celebration of the anniversary. However, the design was actually the collaborative effort of five art students in the high school, who were: Nettie Souppe, Charlene Williams, Phyllis Baker, Byrd Stone, and Barbara Brickner. The flag was adopted on the night of June 26, 1951.

The flag has a dark green background, similar to the official high school colors. Its lettering and designs are white. The flag displays an old well, signifying South Norwalk which in its early history was designated as "Old Well". The old bridge that crossed Wall Street over the Norwalk River is also depicted. As for the lettering, 1651 is shown, the year of foundation.

There is another flag used for the 300th anniversary of Norwalk, being the tricentennial flag. It appears to depict Roger Ludlow exchanging(?) with two Native Americans, perhaps one of them Chief Mahackemo.
