Patricia Fraser, Administrative Assistant at Town of Clarksville, Indiana, informed me about their town flag.

"FLAG OF TOWN OF CLARKSVILLE
The Coat of Arms for the Town of Clarksville, with the color blue and wavy division line, reminds us of our connection to the Ohio River. The red, Cross of St. George, which also appears on the arms of early Virginia, represents the granting of the site of Clarksville to George Rogers Clark by colonial Virginia for his services in the American Revolution. This cross also traditionally symbolizes the English, who originally controlled the area north of the Ohio River. The gold sword, another gift for Clark's military service, is an allusion to the General and his men, who departed for the campaign against the English from the vicinity of the present Town of Clarksville in June 1778.

In 1968, the Civic Participation Committee of the Clarksville Business and Professional Women's Club, co-chaired by Ms. Tonja Ann Oates and Ms. Erna Atwood, sponsored a contest for the design of a flag and a coat of arms for the Town of Clarksville. Richard M. Crossett, a practicing free-lance advertising artist who lived and worked in Louisville, designed both the flag and the coat of arms."
