The seal for the city of Mandeville interestingly combines elements of the city's past history, along with its 20th century characteristics. It was designed by Winky Chestnutt, a local area artist, and presented as a gift to the city. This symbol was adopted as "the official crest of Mandeville" in Ordinance No. 86-2 on March 13, 1986. The 10 flags represent the different historic governing entities that controlled the area surrounding Mandeville. In addition to being a part of the Louisiana Purchase, the area north of Lake Pontchartrain was called the West Florida Territory. Even today, the Louisiana Parishes north of Lake Pontchartrain are still referred to as the Florida Parishes.

Beginning on the left and moving clockwise, these flags represent the following:

  1. Spain - Banner of Castille & Leon - 1492-1717
  2. France - Fleur de Lis of the Bourbons - 1717-1763
  3. England - Union Jack of George III - 1763-1779
  4. United States - Thirteen Stars & Stripes - 1779
  5. Spain - Flag of Bourbon Spain - 1779-1810
  6. Republic of West Florida - Lone Star Flag - 1810, Sept 10-Dec 13
  7. United States - Stars & Stripes - 1810-1861
  8. Confederate of LA - National Flag of LA - 1861
  9. Confederate States - C.S.A. Flag - 1861-1862
  10. United States - Stars & Stripes - 1862-current

The branch separating the flags represents a palmetto branch, which is a common natural vegetation in the city. The middle emblem depicts a view of the Causeway Bridge from the oak lined lake shore at sunset. The background colors of blue and gold bring the elements of the sky and the sun together.
