And here is the flag story :
"Published: December 19, 2008
More than 40 years in the making, Waynesboro's city flag, with its coat of arms, was unfurled atop one of the three flagpoles at the Charles T. Yancey Municipal Building on a windy Friday evening. With a Salvation Army bell ringer and a horn player serenading the crowd with holiday music during the evening's Christmas in the River City event, the raising of new flag signaled the end of a long journey. "It's just been a long, arduous way of doing it, to find someone that would make them," said Shirley Bridgeforth, Waynesboro Heritage Foundation board president. "You had to seek that company and it just took a little while, and we needed something very sturdy, the colors, all of that. And so, we finally succeeded." The council chambers has a coat of arms behind the mayor's seat, but from 1965 - when the city commissioned a design for the coat of arms - until January 2007, no council had formally adopted a coat of arms for the city.
Bridgeforth presented City Manager Mike Hamp and Councilwoman Nancy Dowdy with the flag. "The production and prominent display of the city flag has been an interest on the part of our organization for probably nearly half a decade, that I'm aware of, and probably even longer than that," Hamp said. "And even with the intelligent and talented folks that we have in our organization, we've never been quite able to pull that seemingly small task off." Said Dowdy: "On behalf of the city of Waynesboro, this has been a long time coming, and we take a lot of pride in our coat of arms."
In 1965, Waynesboro paid $150 to York Insignia Ltd. of England to research and design a coat of arms for the city. It was reviewed in 1976, but never formally adopted until January 2007. The Heritage Museum paid the $600 for two flags - the other flag will fly
outside the Thomas L. Gorsuch Building. The flags are made of a heavy nylon and have a bright color design depicting various aspects of the city on a white backdrop. It is adorned with the motto "Fide Et Industria" - Latin for "By Faith
and Industry."
