SUNY New Paltz is a public university that is part of the State University of New York system. The school traces its lineage to the New Paltz Classical School, a secondary school founded in 1828. The school sits on about 350 acres in the Town of New Paltz, New York (not to be confused with the Village of New Paltz, which also falls within the Town of New Paltz).

The flag of SUNY New Paltz, based on a photograph I found on the school's website, appears to focus on the name of the school printed on a dark blue field. Across the center of the field are adjacent stripes of white above orange, though the stripes are truncated before the reach either the hoist or fly edges. In large, capital, orange letters are the words "NEW PALTZ", while the words "STATE UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK" appear in the same color and font, only smaller, above "NEW PALTZ."
