Overview

Portuguesa State flag is a triband of blue, white and green (not an unusual combination for Venezuelan state flags, as it can be seen). The widest stripe, blue, has a white and yellow, highly stylised, sun of sixteen rays, which resembles a mechanichal wheel (I asume it's because they try to picture Portuguesa as an incipiently industrialised region, but the person who showed me the model was not sure). The center band is very narrow, and divides the blue, wide band from the narrower (but not as narrow as the white one) green band.

Portuguesa is a central western state of Venezuela and its capital is the City of Guanare, place where appears on 1651 the Celestial and Principal Matron of the Nation: Our Lady of Coromoto. The Portuguesenian Flag consists of three horizontal and unequal stripes. The blue stripe (above) represents the celestial vault of the firmament, which serves of spiritual reference to the "llanero" (the Venezuelan man of the plains region) that populates the region and their human dimension (their life, their customs and daily chore). The white fringe (central) remembers the pristine purity and the harmony where they unite the material world and the spiritual world for reach the noblest purposes. The green fringe (below) it represents the exuberant natural and agricultural wealth of the State, scenery for the effort and the work of its inhabitants. On the canton near to the staff in the blue fringe appears a Yellow and White sun that irradiates rays of light for symbolize power, wealth, dynamism and generosity. Their configuration is inspired by a geometric figure of aboriginal root for represent the historical continuity of the population of the State, also constituting symbol of the creative energy of its inhabitants like alive force that it guarantees the faith in the future.
