Acknowledged as early as 1638 as a Nehantick-Nahaganet village, reformalized
on December 15th, 2009, and repatriated on December 20th, 2015, the Mashapaug
Nahaganset Tribe is the Principal Tribe of the northern territories of the
mighty Nehantick-Nahaganset Nation.
Historically Mashapaug was a
thriving village of the Nehantick-Nahaganset people of the Northern territories.
Mashapaug was considered a boundary of the Moshassuck lands that the Grand
Sâchem Miantinomo allowed for usage by Roger Williams to establish the
settlement of Providence. However, once Pomham and Socononoco, the Sâchemaog of
the Shawomet and Pawtuxet territories, declared their independence from the over
lordship of Miantinomo in 1643, the lands were thereafter considered under the
rule of Pomham. From the colonial perspective, Pomham’s prominence as an
independent and Great Sâchem of the Nehantick-Nahaganset Nation was acknowledged
and solidified by the Colony of Rhode Island when he was identified, along with
Canonicus, Canonchet, Quaiopen and Ninigret, as one of the principle Sâchemaog
of the Nation and a signer of the October 18th, 1675 Treaty requiring the
Nehantick-Nahaganset to not support the Pokanokets and other warring tribes in
the King Philip's War. Pomham died on July 27th, 1676 in Dedham Woods fighting
valiantly and honorably in defense of his lands and people during the King
Philip’s War. In honor and demonstration of the great legacy and the ongoing
sovereignty of the Northern territories, the Principle Sâchem of the Mashapaug
Tribe carries the non personal heraldic Title of “Pomham Sâchem”.
The
Mission of the Mashapaug Nahaganset Tribe is to provide and promote
opportunities for community, economic, personal, professional and human rights
development, educational obtainment and lawful, social and civic activism for
Tribal Citizens of the Mashapaug Nahaganset Tribe.
The Vision of the
Mashapaug Nahaganset Tribe is to preserve, promote and cultivate
Nehantick-Nahaganset and American Aborigine history, culture and tradition to
and for the greater community.
The Mashapaug Nahaganset Tribe is a member
of the Affiliated Tribes of New England Indians and is a chartering Member
Nation of the Federation of Aboriginal Nations of America (FANA).

This unrecognized tribe has two flags. The first flag was probably adopted in the time of the (re)creation of the Tribe in 2009, and the new flag was adopted in 2015. Here are also tribal seals that changed with flags, and this tribe has four Clans, and here are their seals, but I didn't find clan flags.images located by Valentin Poposki, 16 August 2019
