Castellanos Municipality

The department of Castellanos (178,092 inhabitants in 2016; 6,600 km2) was named for Aarón Castellanos (1799/1802-1880), who initiated the colonization of the province of Santa Fé with the establishment of the
colony of Esperanza. The department includes three second-rank municipalities: Rafaela (capital; 92,241 inh.), Sunchales (21,304 inh.), and Frontera (10,723 inh.).

The flag of Castellanos is vertically divided light blue-light green (1:2) with a 46-ray yellow sun superimposed to the dividing line. The celestial blue stripe represents loyalty and justice as the base of society. Green represents the plains and agriculture and cattle-breeding, which dominate in the department and were the objective of the colonization of the fertile lands. The sun, featured on both the national and provincial flags, is a symbol of territorial belonging. Its placement on the flag recalls the geographical location of the department in the central western part of the province. The 46 rays represent the settlement composing the department (the three aforementioned second-rank municipalities and 43 communes).

The flag, designed by Guillermo Yachellini, from Rafaela, was selected among 51 proposals submitted in the public contest "A flag for the department of Castellanos" initiated by the provincial Senator Alcido Calvo and organized from 1 March to 15 May 2019.

Sunchales Municipality

[Flag of Santa Fe] image by Ivan Sache, 15 May 2017

The Municipality of the Town of Sunchales (Municipalidad de la Ciudad de Sunchales) is located in the north-east of the Santa Fe Province, in the region called "Wet Pampa". The town is an important railway and road crossroads.

The city originates in a fort built in 1796 by the Spaniards to secure the communications between Buenos Aires and Perou, near a village called Los Sunchales. After the suppression of the fort, attempts of recolonization of the village failed in 1867 and 1871. On 19 October 1886, Governor Dr. José Gálvez approved the plans and the name of the new village of Sunchales, finalizing what is known as the Third Colonization. On 19 October 1967, for the 81st anniversary of the foundation of the village, Law 06360 granted to Sunchales the title of Town (Ciudad).

In 1929, the Italian engineer Alfredo Rotania built in Sunchales the first motorized harvester in the world. The machine has been restored and can still work.

On 6 September 2006, the Municipal administration launched the official contest for the flag of Sunchales. The contest is prescribed by 11 articles.

Article 1 states that the design shall respect the history, the cultural identity, the economic potential and the idiosyncrasy of the people of Sunchales.

Article 2 prescribes the selected flag to be made according to traditional practice and to be unveiled on 19 October 2006, for the celebration of the 120th anniversary of the city. The flag will be manufactured in 1.50 m x 0.90 m and other appropriate, proportional lower and bigger sizes.

Article 3 define the eligible contestants as older than 15, living in Sunchales and registered with education establishments of polymodal, tertiary or university level. Articles 4 to 11 give the practical details for the submission of the proposals, mention the set up of a jury, etc.
The deadline for proposal submission is 29 September 2006. Ivan Sache, 07 Sep 2006

Ariel Balderrama reports in "Sunchales Hoy", 10 June 2007, reports a proposal of Decree issued by the municipal executive prescribing the adoption of the design made by Eloísa Noralí Ponte, winner of the contest "Sunchales shall have a flag", as the municipal flag. The explanation and technical specifications of the flag are in Appendix I attached to the proposal.

Golden yellow represents the enlightened sky of definitive colonization.
Green represents the plains, characteristic of the local landscape; together with the stars, this alludes to a land of projects and hope.
The colours are arranged horizontally to represent the flat landscape that merges with the sky at the horizon.

The wheat spikes are, historically, one of the best symbols of the fields, and of the area, in general, alluding to prosperity and wealth.
The fort is a symbol of power, of force and of the harsh work contributed by our ancestors on this land, which is the reason why Sunchales is today a town recognized for work and achievements. The fort also represents unity with the other symbol of the town, the coat of arms.
The two smaller stars symbolize the first two attempts of colonization of the area before the definitive establishment, which is represented by the bigger star. The stars are of the colour of hope [green], a feeling undoubtedly shared by the early settlers of this land.

The colours are specified as follows:
Golden yellow Pantone 130 CMYK 0 27 100 0 RGB 235 117 16
Green Pantone 382 CMYK 30 0 94 0 RGB 187 218 11
Brown Pantone 4715 CMYK 0 38 43 34 RGB 154 113 92
