Flag of SOCAR, current and former versions

The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR; website) is involved in exploring oil and gas fields, producing, processing, and transporting oil, gas, and gas condensate, marketing petroleum and petrochemical products in domestic and international markets, and supplying natural gas to industry and the public in Azerbaijan. Three production divisions, one oil refineries and one gas processing plant, a deep water platform fabrication yard, two trusts, one institution, and 23 subdivisions are operating as corporate entities under SOCAR. Joint ventures (including ventures in Georgia and Turkey), consortia, and operating companies established with SOCAR's participation, are doing business in different parts of the petroleum industry. SOCAR has representative offices in Georgia, Turkey, Romania, Switzerland, Iran, Germany and Ukraine and trading companies in Switzerland, Singapore, Nigeria, and other countries.

Azerbaijan's first oil wells were drilled in 1847 in Bibiheybat and then Balakhany by means of modern technology.
In 1901 Azerbaijan produced 11.5 million tons of oil and was the world's leading oil producer (the United States produced 9.1 million tons of oil that year). In 1941 Azerbaijan produced 23.5 million tons of oil, which amounted to 71.4% of the Soviet Union's production. This production guaranteed the victory of the Soviet Union in World War II and made oil an extremely important factor in the national economy.
Azerbaijan was also the world's first offshore oil producer. On 7 November 1949 Azerbaijan and the Caspian became known all over the world with the discovery of the Neft Dashlari ("Oil Rocks") field 40 km offshore and 90 km from Baku. Later on, fields such as "Gurgan-deniz", "Pirallahy", and "Jilov adasy" were developed. In the late 1970s and early 1980s the Azeri, Chirag, Kapaz, and Gunashli fields were discovered in water 80 to 350 meters deep. Gunashli is currently producing more than 60% of SOCAR's oil.

Azneft, a business that integrated the Azerbaijan oil industry, was subordinate to different organizations in the former Soviet Union and the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic, depending on its organizations' characteristics at different times and was known as Azerneftkomite, Azerneftkombinat (later divided into the Azerneft, Azerneftzavodlar and Azerneftmashingayirma syndicates), and Azerneftchikharma syndicates, and so forth.
In 1954-1959, the Ministry of the Oil Industry of the Azerbaijan SSR and in 1965-1970, the Ministry of Oil Production Industry of the Azerbaijan SSR were established on basis of Azerneft. The organization was renamed Azerneft in August 1970.
In 1991, as the Republic of Azerbaijan restored its independence, Azerineft State Concern was established according to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan of 3 December 1991. On 13 September 1992, according to a Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, SOCAR (the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic) was established on basis of the Azerineft State Concern and Azerneftkimya Production Association in order to use oil resources in accordance with a consistent national policy, improve the management structure of the oil industry, and develop the energy industry.

The flag of SOCAR (photo, photo, photo, photo, photo) is white with the company's emblem, which features a torch with the colors of the national flag.
The former flag of SOCAR (photo, photo) was white with the company's former emblem.

Flag of BHOS, two versions

Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS - Bakı Ali Neft Məktəbi; website), mostly funded by SOCAR, was established as a public higher education institution under Decree No.539, signed on 29 November 2011 by Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Statutes of BHOS were registered on 29 February 2012 with the Ministry of Justice.
BHOS is composed of the Faculties of Chemical Engineering (49 students in 2017), Petrol Engineering (41 students), and Process Automation Engineering (40 students). Joint specialist training is organized with the Heriot-Watt University (UK).
BHOS is mostly funded by SOCAR (State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic).

The flag of BHOS (photo, photo, photo, photo) is white with the school's emblem.
The flag also exists with the emblem in golden yellow on a dark background (photo, photo, photo, photo, photo, photo, photo).

The emblem of BHOS depicts an oil rig symbolizing the power of the country, knowledge, which is the foundation for everything, a book, the symbol of intellect, an oil drop and power symbolizing the country rich in oil, and a protecting shield.
The oil rig illustrates splendor and excellence. The light on the background of the oil rig symbolizes prosperous future and the ways that lead to it. Both symbols reflects President Ilham Aliyev's motto, "We must invest our oil capital into the development of human resources". The book is depicted in a way that also pictures sea waves. This is to present the idea that Azerbaijan is rich in inexhaustible resources as huge as the sea. The shield on the emblem demonstrates the idea that in modern societies, knowledge has the most magnificent power and only intelligent persons possess real power. The flame colored in blue, red and green, the colors of the flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan, is the symbol of the ancient cultural heritage and symbolizes hope, prosperity and peace.

Azersun

[Flag] image by Ivan Sache, 26 October 2018

Azersun Holding (website) started out back in 1991 to become a strong market leader position in the food production, retail and farming sectors throughout the country and region wide.
The products are marketed and delivered by its subsidiary, Sun Food Distribution Co., also a regional distributor for Unilever.

Azersun is the Azerbaijani branch of the Intersun group, controlled by two Iranian-born brothers Abdolbari (founder and president of Azersun) and Hasan Gozal, whose connections to the presidency of Ilham Aliyev hav been investigated by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists in Baku, revealing an interlocking network of vested interests which tie the Gozals, and by extension the football club FC Qarabag, into the highly selective world of Azerbaijani business.
