The municipality

The former town of Roxboro (5,948 inhabitants in 2006; 222 ha), located in the north-western part of the Island of Montreal, is part of the borough of Pierrefonds-Roxboro, established on 1 January 2006. Roxboro was incorporated as a town on 19 February 1914, separating from the parish of Sainte-Geneviève-de-Pierrefonds.

The flag

The arms of Roxboro are "Quarterly, 1. and 4. Azure a unicorn argent in chief a crown or, 2. and 3. Sable a fess argent s in chief two acorns of the same in base a star or. The shield surmounted by a crown ancient or and surrounded by garlands of maple leaves vert tied in base by a ribbon gules. Beneath the shield a scroll or inscribed with the motto 'PER ASPERA AD ASTRA' in letters sable."

The 1st and 4th quarters represent the parish. Azure and the unicorn symbolize the Blessed Virgin., the parish's patron saint. The crown or is the celestial attribute of the Virgin, venerated by the church as the Queen of the Heavens, and more specifically in Roxboro as the Queen of Peace. The 2nd and 3rd quarters represent the town. The fess symbolize the
division and separation from Sainte-Geneviève-de-Pierrefonds, and Rivière des Prairies, as well. The star recalls that Roxboro was once ran by the Order of Saint-Sulpice, whose arms feature a star. The acorns are taken from the arms of Jacques Cartier, the discoverer of Canada, for which the Jacques Cartier County, which includes Roxboro, was named.

The Latin motto reads "To Reach the Heights Through Difficulties". "Aster" means in Latin, "a star", alluding to the star featured in the shield.
