Steindorf Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale; at dexter Argent an eradicated beech Gules with four roots; at sinister Sable a lion rampant Or, crowned, armed and tongued Gules and issuant from sinister flanch.
Meaning:
The roots of the beech are representing the former independent municipalities of Eresried, Hausen near Hofhegnenberg, Hofhegnenberg and Steindorf proper. The beech is taken from the arms of the Augustine Rottenbuch Monastery, which had been manorial lord and owner of the right of patronage. The lion is reminding on the Lords of Hegnenberg. Steindorf belonged to the Hegnenberg District (Bavarian: Hofmark), which was acquired by Georg of Hegnenberg called Dux in 1542. He had been a son of Duke Wilhelm IV of Bayern. The lords were upgraded to counts in 1790 and owned the district until 1900. The arms of the counts displayed the Palatine lion, which was adopted by the municipality in a differentiated version.
