Bad Berka Coat of Arms

Shield Azure, issuant from a mount Vert and flanked by rocks Or forming a gorge a palm tree Or, fruited of the same with fronds Vert, on top of the dexter rock is a small castle Or.
Meaning:
Berka was often destroyed by acts of warfare and conflagrations in the 17th century. It is supposed that the Duke of Sachsen-Weimar granted the arms as a symbol of hope for peace, concord and growth of the city. The pattern existed already on local seals since 1674. The arms are most likely derived from the canting arms of the so-called Order of the Palm tree (German: Palmenorden). The Order, also named Fruitful Society (German: Fruchtbringende Gesellschaft) Weimar. It was a society of poets and scientist. The purpose had been to promote the purity of the German language. The Order was founded in nearbyWeimar in 1617 and had its seat there. The castle is representing the ruin of the castle of the Counts of Berka. The palm had been a symbol of culture, prosperity and fruitfulness in the 17th century and was part of the family arms of many local noblemen and house marks. The current shape was fixed in 1930, the tinctures in 1992.
