Shield Argent on triplemount issuant Vert an aurochs passant Sable, armed Or and tongued Gules, upon his breast fixed by a strap Gules an inescutcheon in bend; 1st and 4th quarter Sable a lion rampant Or, crowned, armed and tongued Gules; 2nd and 3rd quarter lozengy of Argent and Azure.
Meaning:
Auerbach gained city rights around 1300 and was acquired by the Palatine Electors in 1400. Before the city became the capital of the reduced "new Bohemian territory" in 1373. The arms are based on local seals from 1401 and 1742. The older one had a circumscription "S. aurbach sinceris comitatui Palatino fidelis". Since the 16th century a few details of the tinctures changed in minor details. In 1819 the arms were quartered, displaying a bend wavy Argent in a green field on the 1st and 4th quarter, and a field again quartered of Argent and Azure on the 2nd and 3rd quarter. In 1963 the pattern of the local seals from 1401 and 1742 was restored.
