Hohenburg Coat of Arms

Shield barry of Gules, Argent and Sable charged with three grain ears Or ordered per fess, the central one with stalk issuant from base; chief Gules a bend Argent; base parted per pale, at dexter parted again per pale of Argent and Azure under a barrulet Or, at sinister lozengy of Argent and Azure under a barrulet Gules.
Meaning:
The chief displays the arms of the Bishopric of Regensburg and remained unchanged since 1548, when the existence of the first local seal print is proven. The arms beneath the chief, granted by Johann, administrator of the bishopric, in 1542 were alluding to the Margraves of Diepoldingen, who are considered to be the founders of the town. The black bar in base was changed to a black triplemount in 1610 with the ears issuant from its peaks. The ears were considered as trees in literature but as ears proper according to local tradition. The parts in base were added in order to represent the former municipalities of Adertshausen, Allersburg, Egelsheim and Mendorferbuch, which were incorporated in 1972. The right half in base displays the family arms of the Scharfenberger kin, the left half those of the Püntzinger kin.
