Meuselwitz Coat of Arms

Shield parted per fess, above Sable hammer and mallet in saltire Argent hafted Or, beneath Azure a weaver's shuttle Or in fess. The shield is crested by a helmet Argent with a visor of heartlets Gules, scarves trefly of Or and Sable and two linden branches Gules.
Meaning:
Since 1592 Meuselwitz had been considered to be a market town. The village before had been acquired by the merchant Heinrich Cramer von Clausbruch, who established industrial cloth factories. Experimental lignite mining started in 1671 and became an important business line since 1860. The town gained city rights in 1874. Hammer and mallet are representing mining and the shuttle is representing the cloth industry. On 5 July 1949 different arms were adopted. The shield was parted per fess; above Or a piece of a wall Gules masoned Sable under an impending weaver's shuttle Gules in fess; beneath Sable hammer and mallet Argent superimposing a lower demi cogwheel of the same. These arms were abolished after the German re-unification.
