Neusäß Coat of Arms

Shield Gules a pale Or, at dexter a dove Argent nimbed of the same, at sinister a doubled initial "R" Argent.
Meaning:
In order to avoid an incorporation into the city of Augsburg, the former municipalities of Neusäß, Hainhofen, Hammel, Westheim and Schlipsheim merged in 1972. In 1978 the municipalities of Täfertingen, Ottmarshausen and Steppach joined the municipality. Besides Neusäß proper also Hainhofen, Ottmarshausen, Steppach, Täfertingen and Westheim had been seats of a parish (German: Pfarrdörfer). In 1988 Neusäß gained city rights.
The dove was chosen as the Hospital of the Holy Spirit in Augsburg owned many possessions in most of the former municipalities. It was also the local ruler in the Lordship of Täfertingen. A dove was also part of the former arms of Neusäß proper and Täfertingen. The pale is taken from the family arms of the Counts of Burgau, who ruled a large part of the area in medieval times. The double "R", precisely an "R" connected with its mirror image, is taken from the arms of the Langenmantel family from Augsburg. They acquired an estate in Westheim around 1300, which they owned until 1809. They had great influence in the area and became also rulers of Hirblingen and Neusäß and had possessions in Ottmarshausen. The pattern also was part of the arms of Ottmarshausen and Westheim.
