Baunach Coat of Arms

Shield Gules three pales wavy Argent, over all a fish haurient Or in bend.
Meaning:
King Ludwig the Bavarian granted city rights in 1328, which however became defunct very soon. The oldest seal from the 16th century of the then market town displayed the current pattern. The pales are representing the rivers Baunach, Lauter and Itz. Their confluence is in the area of the city shortly before their confluence with the Main River. The fish was always painted as a pike and is symbolising riches of fish. Otto Hupp (1925), Clemens Stadler (1965) and Andreas Pampuch (1972) displayed the arms on a green background. The red background was first fixed by Bishop Johann Philipp of Gebsattel (1599 - 1609). Before a seal and a banner were granted by Bishop Anton of Rotenhan, but without description of the tinctures.
