Biesenthal Coat of Arms

Shield Argent, two embattled towers Gules with cone roofs, connected by a gate of the same, all masoned Sable, port Argent with bordure Or masoned Sable and portcullis Sable, in chief an impending eagle Gules, armed and tongued Or. Mural crown Or with three visible towers and port Gules charged with three chevrons reversed Sable in pale.
Meaning:
Biesenthal is a small city ca. 40 km northeast of Berlin in Brandenburg. Biesenthal received city rights in the early 14th century from the Margraves of Brandenburg. The seals only showed the red eagle of Brandenburg until 1902, when the present arms were devised. Although the combination of eagle and castle looks historical, the arms thus are not very old. The draft of the predecessor of the current arms was made in 1906. The pattern was basically the same as the currrent one, apart from minor details, as a red bordure of the gate and red cloverstems. And there had been no mural crown. You will find an approximation at the city hall not up to the Hauptsatzung.

Stefan Schwoon, 14 June 2001; Santiago Dotor, 30 April 2002; Wolfgang Coy, 19 Aug 2006 and Klaus-Michael Schneider, 1 Feb 2020

The arms were approved on 21 July 1994.

Coat of Arms

Shield Argent with base wavy Azure, sailing on base a sinister facing sailing boat Gules with mast Sable topped by a pennant Gules, and with sail Azure, charged with a spool Argent.
Meaning:
The base wavy is alluding to the location between the Oder-Havel-Canal in the North and the Finow Canal in the South. Marienwerder was thus denoted and considered as an island. The spool is alluding to Prussian King Friedrich II the Great, the founder of the village, who also established spinnery in the village. The arms developed since the 19th century. The current version was based on a draft of Ottfried Neubecker from 1935.

Klaus-Michael Schneider, 1 Feb 2020

The arms were approved in 1935 by Prussian Minister of State and confirmed on 17 July 2000 by Minister of Interior of Brandenburg. The banner was confirmed on 12 September 2000 by Minister of Interior of Brandenburg.
