    Introduction of Eberswalde

Eberswalde is a city of 50,000 inhabitants in the northeast of Berlin. It is the capital of Barnim County. In 1970, the cities of Eberswalde and Finow were united under the name Eberswalde-Finow. Today the city is apparently called simply Eberswalde.

    Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale, at dexter Argent a demi-millwheel Gules couped per pale, at sinister Gules a water tower Argent.
    Meaning:
On 15 October 1928 the settlements of Eisenspalterei-Wolfswinkel and Messingwerk joined the village of Heegermühle. The new municipality was named Finow. Name giver was the namesake river. Finow gained city rights in 1935. The city was dissolved in 1970. The watermill's wheel is reminding on the Heegemühle, an old watermill and name giver of the city's predecessor, the village of Heegermühle. The water tower is representing the Hindenburg-Tower, which was built in Messingwerk during WW1. Name giver had been General Field Marshal Paul of Hindenburg (1847-1934), who gave permission to use his name in 1917. The tower is also a landmark in the Finow valley. According to source it is not sure, whether the flags were in use between 1945 and 1970.
