Schorndorf Coat of Arms

Shield Azure a stemmed fleur-de-lis Argent and a grain ear Argent in saltire, dexter and base quarter charged with waxing crescent Or, sinister quarter with a waning crescent of the same, chief quarter with an inescutcheon Azure charged with a bend Or.
Meaning:
The municipality was established in 1972 by a merger of Schorndorf proper, Neuhaus, Thierling, Obertraubenbach and partially Penting. The fleur-de-lis is an attribute of St. Mary, patron saint of Schorndorf and as Our Lady of Assumption of the Nanzing Provostry, which was located in Obertraubenbach and belonged to the Benedictine Imperial Obermünster Nunnery. The ear is referring to archaological excavations with imprints of prehistorical grain near Knöbling. In 1935 those excavations proved the existence of the early cultivation of grain in the Bavarian Forest. The crescents are taken from the family arms of the Puchberger kin in Neuhaus. The inescutcheon is referring to the Türlinger kin in Thierling. The bend is also referring to the so called pale, a needle of quartz, which marks the border of the municipality near Penting. The blue colour is symbolising the Knöblinger Bach and the Pentinger Bach, two creeks and is canting for Obertraubenbach and its name giving creek.
