Land Wursten Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per pale. The dexter side displays in a golden (= yellow field) a black demi-eagle couped per pale, armed and tongued red. The sinister side displays seven golden (= yellow) trefoils ordered 2:2:2.1 in a green field. Above the trefoils the field is divided by a silver (= white) fess wavy.
Meaning:
The eagle is typical for many arms in Friesland and is symbolizing that the area belongs to the Wursten Region, which had been settled by Frisians since the 6th century. The number of trefoils is symbolizing the municipalities being part of Land Wursten. Those are Cappel, Dorum, Midlum, Misselwarden, Mulsum, Padingbüttel and Wremen. The green colour is symbolizing agriculture. The fess is symbolizing the riches of waters: little rivers , creeks and canals. Green and white are the traditional colours of the Frisians in Wursten.

Cappel Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a blue shield is a silver (= white) church, standing on top of a green hill.
Meaning:
The arms display the local parish church, dedicated to St. Peter and St. Paul. A chapel had been built in the 12th century, since the 13th century an extended church stood on an island (Wurt). The tower was added in the 15th century and was also used as a navigation mark. The building was destroyed by fire in 1810 but re-erected during the following years. Green and white are the traditional colours of the Frisians in Wursten.

The shield is divided per pale. The dexter side displays in a silver (= white) field a black demi-eagle couped per pale, armed and tongued red. The sinister side displays in a golden (=yellow) field a black bishop with mitre and crozier, sitting on a black chair. The sinister half has a green base, superimposed by a silver (= white) trefoil.
Meaning:
The demi-eagle is symbolizing Dorum as capital of the Frisian territory of Wursten. The bishop is St. Urban, patron saint of the local parish church. The trefoil and the green colour are symbolizing agriculture. Green and white are the traditional colours of the Frisians in Wursten.

Midlum Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In the middle of the green shield is a silver (= white) crozier issuant, flanked by two golden (= yellow) ears of grain and topped by scales of the same colour.
Meaning:
The crozier is symbolizing that Midlum in the Middle Ages belonged to a local monastery, which was later moved to Altenwalde and Neuenwalde. The monastery played a major role in the development of the area. Midlum also had been an important marketplace, which is symbolized by the scales. The two ears are symbolizing agriculture as the main business line. Green and white are the traditional colours of the Frisians in Wursten.

Meaning:
The bell is named "Gloriosa", is part of the local parish church, dedicated to St. Catherine, and had beem founded by Ghert Klinghe in 1459.

Mulsum Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a red shield is a silver (= white) church with port and windows golden (= yellow) at the front. The church is a ccompanied by an upright silver (= white) battle axe and a date "1524" in silver (= white) digits.
Meaning:
The arms are symbolizing the local battle of 1524 between the Archbishop of Bremen and the local mercenaries, which had their stronghold in the local church. The locals were completely defeated by the troops of the archbishop and afterwards the complete region was depredated by the bishop's men. Thus the colours of the victor, i.e. Bremen had been chosen. The colours of the sheet - green and white - are the traditional colours of the Frisians in Wursten.

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per pale. The dexter side displays in a green field three silver (= white) trefoils ordered 2:1. The sinister side displays displays in a silver (= white) field a black, sinister facing demi-eagle couped per pale, crowned and armed golden , tongued red and with red claw ends.
Meaning:
The arms are derived from those of dyke reeve Eibe Siade Johans (1659 - 1720). The demi-eagle is symbolizing Padingbüttel as a part of Wursten. The trefoils are symbolizing the historical quarters: the northern, upper and southern quarter (/order-, Ober- Süderquartier). Green and white are the traditional colours of the Frisians in Wursten.

The shield is divided per pale. The dexter side displays in a silver (= white) field a black demi-eagle couped per pale, armed and tongued red. The sinister side is divided by a silver fess wavy into blue over green. The blue field is superimposed by a silver (= white), upright anchor.
Meaning:
The demi-eagle is symbolizing Wremen as a part of Wursten. The fess wavy is symbolizing river Weser. The anchor and the blue colour are symbolizing shipping. The green field is symbolizing agriculture and the marshes. Green and white are the traditional colours of the Frisians in Wursten.
