It is a blue - white - blue vertical triband with ratio 1:3.1. The coat of arms is in the middle of the white stripe.

Darmstadt-Dieburg County Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per fess into gold (= yellow) over blue. Above is a red demi-lion issuant, armed and tongued blue and holding a red wheel with six spokes in his forpaws. Below the field is scattered by 23 silver (= white) 4-point stars.
Meaning:
The demi-lion is a modification of the arms of the Counts of Katzenelnbogen. Their lion was however usually crowned blue and guardant. Most of the county's territory belonged historically to Katzenelnbogen. The wheel is representing those parts formerly belonging to the Bishopric of Mainz. Each of the 4-point stars represents one municipality.

It was a red over white horizontal bicolour. The coat of arms was in the centre of the flag.

Darmstadt County Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The blue shield is scattered by 41 silver (= white) 4-point stars. In the centre is a golden (= yellow) inescutcheon, displaying in a golden (= yellow) field a red, rampant lion, armed and tongued blue.
Meaning:
The lion is a modification of the arms of the Counts of Katzenelnbogen. Their lion was however usually crowned blue and guardant. The counties territory marked the historical core areas of the Upper County of Katzenelnbogen. Each of the 4-point stars represents one municipality.

It is a red over white over red horizontal triband with ratio 1:3.1. The coat of arms is in the middle of the white stripe.

County Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
On the base of the red shield is a green hill. On top of the hill stands a silver castle, masoned black, having a round, embattled wall and a tower. The hill is superimposed by an inescutcheon parted per pale. The dexter side is dvided barry bendy into Bavarian blue and silver (= white). The sinister side displays a black initial "O" in a golden (= yellow) field.
Meaning:
The castle is representing the fortress of Otzberg, located on the highest hill in the former county. The inescutcheon is based upon the seal of the former Otzberg district (Amt). The initial stands for the name, while the lozenges allude to the electors from the Wittelsbach kin.
