Altomünster Coat of Arms

Shield Azure, a saint nimbed Or, dressed Argent with a mitre Argent upon his head, holding the model of a minster Argent with roofs Gules, beneath the church an inescutcheon Or charged with a fleur-de-lis Sable.
Meaning:
The saint is the Benedictine abbot St. Alto (died 760), who is name giver of the town. The arms with saint and minster are thus canting. The town developed around a Benedictine nunnery. Its oldest seal from 1340 already displayed the saint. When the nunnery was transferred to Order of the Most Holy Saviour, commonly known as Bridgettines, in the early 16th century, the seals still displayed St. Alto. The inescutcheon was added in 1912, based on a seal from the 16th century. The tinctures of the inescutcheon changed frequently. Its meaning is not mentioned.
