Description of banner:
It is a vertical 9-stripes flag of alternating black and yellow stripes. The ratio between black and yellow stripes is 5:6. The lion from the local coat of arms is placed into a yellow, rectangular bannerhead.

Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per fess. Above in a golden (= yellow) field is a black statant lion armed and tongued red. The field below is eight times divided per pale into black and golden (= yellow).
Meaning:
According to Ralf Hartemink the lion is symbolizing the dukes of Jülich, the former rulers. The nine stripes below are symbolizing the nine villages that formed the municipality.

Flag, banner and coat of arms were approved by Regierungspräsident Köln on 25 August 1975. Before the local council had decided the approval on 28 November 1974 and finally adopted the symbols on 17.11.1975. Finally they were introduced on 1 January 1976.
