Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a golden (=yellow) shield is a black, rampant lion, armed and tongued red. The dexter chief point by a golden(= yellow) 6-point star, The sinister chief point is superimposed by a blue waining moon-crescent. Thew lion is surrounded by five blue 6-point stars.
Meaning:
According to source the lion is symbolizing the dukes of Jülich, the former rulers. The crescent is taken from the old arms of the municipality and the stars are representing the five former municipalities that built the new municipality.

Former Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a golden (=yellow) shield is a black, rampant lion, armed and tongued red. The shield has a blue chief. The dexter chief point is superimposed by a golden(= yellow) 6-point star, the sinister chief point by a golden (=yellow) waning moon-crescent.
Meaning:
According to source the pattern is known from court seals since the early middle ages. Its existence had been proven first in 1343, when a donation of land to Dalheim monastery had been registered. It was surrounded by an inscription as follows: "HOG EST SIGILLUM SCABINORUM DE TITZE" (/"this is the lay judges' seal of Titz/"). An image of the seal can be seen in:

Version 1972 of banner and coat of arms were approved by Regierungspräsident Köln on 11 December 1972, version 1961 by minister of interior of Northrhine-Westphalia on 29 September 1961 and confirmed by Regierungspräsident Aachen on 24 February 1971.
