Description

The Gemeinde Moosinning was one of the first of the Erding municipalities to adopt arms after World War Two. The arms was granted by the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior on 20th October 1950, blazon: Azure, a palm leaf and a key in saltire Argent. The flag was adopted on 5th August 1980. It is blue-white-blue and shows the arms.
There is an interesting story with this flag. The flagmaker Kattan in Regensburg, one of the largest flagmakers in Bavaria refused to make flags of blue-white-blue without the arms, as this would be the flag of Argentina (!). Thus even the Government of Upper Bavaria approved the flag only with the arms.

I was quite surprised to see the flag image, showing a thin white chief on the arms which does not appear on the blazon. The coat-of-arms at Marcus Schmöger's Erding County flags and arms website shows this white strip as a sort of relief on the top edge. There it looks alright, however on the plain French-style shield used on the flag it is quite misleading. Nevertheless, that is how actual flags are manufactured so Marcus Schmöger's image is perfectly correct.

Most municipal coats-of-arms adopted in Bavaria in the 1950's were drawn by Emil Werz. He had his distinct, ornate style including a quite unusual kind of shield. This shield design included the white 'relief' (...). Municipalities followed different ways in adapting this shield to the flag (...) Moosinning uses a simple shield, but adds the white stripe at the top.
