Gaimersheim Coat of Arms

Shield Gules, on top of a base Vert a church Argent with roofs Azure, two towers at sinister and a gate Sable with staircase at dexter.
Meaning:
Gaimersheim had been a market town since 1300 due to a document kept in the State Archive in München. The status was confirmed in 1699 by Elector Max Emanuel of Bayern. The arms are based on the oldest seal with prints since 1308, which already displayed the church. The staircase appeared first on a colured painting, made by Philipp Apian, from 1562. The staircase was erroneously replaced by an inscription "IHS" (Jesus Christ Saviour) between 1819 and 1920. The church was demolished in 1488 and replaced twice. Others say that the church is not the local parish church but that one of Geisenheim Abbey, which was founded in 1037 and owned Gaimersheim.
