Ehrenfriedersdorf Coat of Arms

Shield parted per bend sinister, above right Gules an annulet Or with gem stone Azure, beneath left Or hammer and mallet Azure in saltire.
Meaning:
Tin was depleted in the village since 1230, silver and copper since 1450. Tin mining had been a profitable business until the 19th century. It was discontinued in 1923 and revived in 1937. Ehrenfriedersdorf was mentioned as a village in 1439, as a market town in 1456 and as a city in 1460. The local council held the high level cognisance since 1558. Making bobbin lace became an additional business line before 1600. After 1880 shoe, textiles and cardboard boxes were produced in the city. The upper dexter part displays the family arms of the Lords of Waldenburg, whose seat had been in Wolkenstein. The lower sinister part is symbolising mining and the depletion of tin, tungsten and arsenic ore until the 20th century. Ehrenfriedersberg had been one of the biggest mining cities in the Erzgebirge.
