Grünhain-Beierfeld Coat of Arms

Shield Or, a bunch of grapes Azure with leaves Vert, in chief a polishing hammer Sable hafted Maron, over all a spoon and a ladle both Sable in saltire.
Meaning:
The arms refer to viticulture and iron works. The polishing hammer stems from the former arms of Beierfeld. There has long been iron mining there, and later it had the iron works deriving from that. The spoon and ladle appear to be tools and results from that, with the polishing the final stage before they went to conquer the world.

Grünhain Coat of Arms

Shield Or, on top of a mount issuant Vert a black cock proper in front of three firs Vert, orle Or charged with an inscription Sable "STADT" (above) and "GRÜNHAIN" (below).
Meaning:
Grünhain belonged to the County of Hartenstein. The Order of Cistercians (Latin: (Sacer) Ordo Cisterciensis(OCist or SOCist)), established a monastery in the village in 1231. The monastery acquired the complete Lordship of Schlettau in 1413. It had the right to appoint own reeves and its territory expanded into the Margraviate of Meißen, before the monastery was acquired by the Ernestine branch of the Dukes of Sachsen in 1485. Temporarily Grünhain had been the richest monastery of Sachsen and owned three cities and 56 villages. It was dissolved in 1536, after it had been devastated during the German Peasants Wars. Grünhain was founded before 1280 as a market town, which was first called a city in 1347. Proper arms probably came to being in 1475. The abbot granted the right to use arms displaying a bird from the local woods. It first had been a parakeet (German: Sittich), reminding on the fact that the monks originally came from Sittichenbach in Mansfeld. He was replaced by the black cock in the 17th century. Cock and wood together are considered to be punning.
