Scheibenberg Coat of Arms

Shield parted per fess, above Argent two firs proper in fess, beneath Gules hammer and mallet Argent in saltire over all a plate charged with a griffin rampant Gules. The shield is supported by two miners in full dress each one holding a pickaxe.
Meaning:
Due to silver founds in 1515 the Lords of Schönburg as owners of the County of Hartenstein founded a city in 1522 and granted complete city rights in 1530. Church and parish existed since 1535. Since 1553 also ore was depleted. The city was acquired by the Electorate of Sachsen in 1559. Mining was discontinued completely since 1854. Only stone quarries remained. The arms are based on the greater council seal, which was granted in 1522 on occasion of the grant of city rights. The firs are referring to a location in the forests, hammer and mallet are the symbols of mining, also represented by the supporters. The tinctures red and white are those of the Lords of Schönburg, and the griffin probably is a differentiation of their family arms.
