Vrees Coat of Arms

Shield parted by a bend sinister Azure, above Or an oak tree proper, beneath Gules charged with mitre, crozier and panisellium with inscription "SN", all Or.
Meaning:
The blue bend sinister is symbolising the name of the municipality, which was first mentioned as "Weres" in a dade issued by Emperor Otto the Great in 947. It means "swamp" or "stream", it is also symbolising Marka Creek, which had been the boundary of the village. The tree is symbolising the many local hillocks, covered with oak trees. It is also reminding on the former rulers, the Bishops of Münster and the Dukes of Arenberg, who used the Hümmling for hunting purposes. The other charges are attributes of St. Nicholas, the local patron saint, which is fairly unusual for a village far away from the sea. The colours red and yellow are the colours of the comprehensive municipality.
The draft of the arms was made on occasion of the 1050th birthday of the village in 1997.
