Meaning:
The arms are based on the oldest seal of the city, known since 1274. The towers are symbolising donjons of the local castle, finished around 1160 by Kuno von Münzenberg and today in ruins. The mint plant is taken from the arms of the Münzenberg kin and thus a canting element. All later seals and images have shown the same pattern, but the tinctures have changed during the centuries.
The arms were approved in 1928
