Meaning:
The market town Nidda became a city around 1234. The current arms are based on the oldest seal, known since 1335, and had been stamped upon church bells until the 17th century. The seal shows a city wall with towers and a gate. Between the 14th and 18th century onwards the gate was replaced by a crescent, also in sculptures of buildings and Siebmachers armourial (1605). The colours were fixed since 1718. The city walls are representing the city rank of Nidda. The star, originally having six points, is taken from the arms of the Counts of Ziegenhain as local rulers. Together with the crescent it had been a proper city symbol..
