Coat of Arms

Shield parted per fess; above Azure semy of billets Or, a lion passant Or armed and tongued Gules; beneath Or a facetted Greek cross Sable, flanked by two vine leaves Gules.
Meaning:
When Reichelsheim gained city rights, is not known. In any case it was considered a city in 1622. The seal from that year displays arms with the lion in chief and an imperial orb in base, flanked by two crosses. The lion is taken from the arms of the Dukes of Nassau, The orb is considered to be canting, alluding to the city's name, containing the word "Reich" (= realm, here for the Holy Roman Empire) the crosses are symbolising that the city belonged to the Fulda March., When Nassau became a part of Prussia in 1866, the lion was often omitted. In the current arms the lion of Nassau was restored but the lower half was changed, the cross probably still is alluding to Fulda.
The curent arms were approved in 1960.
