Coat of Arms

Shield Azure; issuant from base an embattled wall Argent masoned Sable, flanked by two towers of the same and in centre a lower tower of the same; issuant from the central tower a falcon Or, spreading his wings; in chief two inescutcheons ordered per fess, the dexter one Argent divided by a cross Gules, the sinister one Or with chief Gules.
Meaning:
The inescutcheons display the arms of the Archbishops of Trier (dexter) and the Lords of Falkenstein-Münzenberg (sinister). The falcon appeared in local seals from the 15th century with prints since 1572 and from the 18th century. He is also referring to the Lords of Falkenstein, especially to Werner of Falkenstein, Archbishop of Trier, who died in 1418. The Münzenberg kin ruled large parts of the Wetterau region in the 12th-14th century. They were succeeded by the Lords of Falkenstein. In the 1930ies Otto Hupp painted the cross erroneously as black, referring to the Bishopric of Fulda.
